{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">Sirach<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 10<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,1,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A wise judge will instruct his people; and the government of a prudent man is well ordered.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,2,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">As the judge of the people is himself, so are his officers; and what manner of man the ruler of the city is, such are all they that dwell therein.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,3,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">An unwise king destroyeth his people; but through the prudence of them which are in authority the city shall be inhabited.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,4,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The power of the earth is in the hand of the Lord, and in due time he will set over it one that is profitable.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,5,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">In the hand of God is the prosperity of man: and upon the person of the scribe shall he lay his honour.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,6,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Bear not hatred to thy neighbour for every wrong; and do nothing at all by injurious practices.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,7,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Pride is hateful before God and man: and by both doth one commit iniquity.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,8,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Because of unrighteous dealings, injuries, and riches got by deceit, the kingdom is translated from one people to another.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,9,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Why is earth and ashes proud? There is not a more wicked thing than a covetous man: for such an one setteth his own soul to sale; because while he liveth he casteth away his bowels.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,10,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The physician cutteth off a long disease; and he that is to day a king to morrow shall die.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,11,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For when a man is dead, he shall inherit creeping things, beasts, and worms.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,12,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The beginning of pride is when one departeth from God, and his heart is turned away from his Maker.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,13,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For pride is the beginning of sin, and he that hath it shall pour out abomination: and therefore the Lord brought upon them strange calamities, and overthrew them utterly.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,14,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The Lord hath cast down the thrones of proud princes, and set up the meek in their stead.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,15,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The Lord hath plucked up the roots of the proud nations, and planted the lowly in their place.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,16,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The Lord overthrew countries of the heathen, and destroyed them to the foundations of the earth.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,17,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">He took some of them away, and destroyed them, and hath made their memorial to cease from the earth.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,18,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Pride was not made for men, nor furious anger for them that are born of a woman.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,19,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">They that fear the Lord are a sure seed, and they that love him an honourable plant: they that regard not the law are a dishonourable seed; they that transgress the commandments are a deceivable seed.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,20,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Among brethren he that is chief is honorable; so are they that fear the Lord in his eyes.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,21,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The fear of the Lord goeth before the obtaining of authority: but roughness and pride is the losing thereof.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,22,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Whether he be rich, noble, or poor, their glory is the fear of the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"23\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,23,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">23<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">It is not meet to despise the poor man that hath understanding; neither is it convenient to magnify a sinful man.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"24\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,24,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">24<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Great men, and judges, and potentates, shall be honoured; yet is there none of them greater than he that feareth the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"25\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,25,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">25<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Unto the servant that is wise shall they that are free do service: and he that hath knowledge will not grudge when he is reformed.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"26\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,26,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">26<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Be not overwise in doing thy business; and boast not thyself in the time of thy distress.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"27\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,27,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">27<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Better is he that laboureth, and aboundeth in all things, than he that boasteth himself, and wanteth bread.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"28\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,28,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">28<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">My son, glorify thy soul in meekness, and give it honour according to the dignity thereof.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"29\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,29,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">29<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Who will justify him that sinneth against his own soul? and who will honour him that dishonoureth his own life?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"30\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,30,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">30<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The poor man is honoured for his skill, and the rich man is honoured for his riches.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"31\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,10,31,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">31<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">He that is honoured in poverty, how much more in riches? and he that is dishonourable in riches, how much more in poverty?<\/span> <\/p>\n<div class=\"bottom-nav\"><a href=\"\/apocrypha\/3\/5\/9\" class=\"nav-btn-lg nav-ajax\">&lsaquo;
