{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">Sirach<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 26<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,1,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Blessed is the man that hath a virtuous wife, for the number of his days shall be double.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,2,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A virtuous woman rejoiceth her husband, and he shall fulfil the years of his life in peace.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,3,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A good wife is a good portion, which shall be given in the portion of them that fear the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,4,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Whether a man be rich or poor, if he have a good heart toward the Lord, he shall at all times rejoice with a cheerful countenance.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,5,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">There be three things that mine heart feareth; and for the fourth I was sore afraid: the slander of a city, the gathering together of an unruly multitude, and a false accusation: all these are worse than death.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,6,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But a grief of heart and sorrow is a woman that is jealous over another woman, and a scourge of the tongue which communicateth with all.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,7,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">An evil wife is a yoke shaken to and fro: he that hath hold of her is as though he held a scorpion.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,8,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A drunken woman and a gadder abroad causeth great anger, and she will not cover her own shame.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,9,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The whoredom of a woman may be known in her haughty looks and eyelids.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,10,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">If thy daughter be shameless, keep her in straitly, lest she abuse herself through overmuch liberty.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,11,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Watch over an impudent eye: and marvel not if she trespass against thee.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,12,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">She will open her mouth, as a thirsty traveller when he hath found a fountain, and drink of every water near her: by every hedge will she sit down, and open her quiver against every arrow.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,13,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The grace of a wife delighteth her husband, and her discretion will fatten his bones.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,14,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A silent and loving woman is a gift of the Lord; and there is nothing so much worth as a mind well instructed.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,15,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A shamefaced and faithful woman is a double grace, and her continent mind cannot be valued.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,16,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">As the sun when it ariseth in the high heaven; so is the beauty of a good wife in the ordering of her house.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,17,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">As the clear light is upon the holy candlestick; so is the beauty of the face in ripe age.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,18,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">As the golden pillars are upon the sockets of silver; so are the fair feet with a constant heart.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,19,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">My son, keep the flower of thine age sound; and give not thy strength to strangers.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,20,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">When thou hast gotten a fruitful possession through all the field, sow it with thine own seed, trusting in the goodness of thy stock.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,21,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">So thy race which thou leavest shall be magnified, having the confidence of their good descent.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,22,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">An harlot shall be accounted as spittle; but a married woman is a tower against death to her husband.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"23\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,23,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">23<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A wicked woman is given as a portion to a wicked man: but a godly woman is given to him that feareth the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"24\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,24,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">24<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A dishonest woman contemneth shame: but an honest woman will reverence her husband.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"25\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,25,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">25<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A shameless woman shall be counted as a dog; but she that is shamefaced will fear the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"26\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,26,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">26<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A woman that honoureth her husband shall be judged wise of all; but she that dishonoureth him in her pride shall be counted ungodly of all.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"27\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,27,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">27<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A loud crying woman and a scold shall be sought out to drive away the enemies.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"28\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,28,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">28<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">There be two things that grieve my heart; and the third maketh me angry: a man of war that suffereth poverty; and men of understanding that are not set by; and one that returneth from righteousness to sin; the Lord prepareth such an one for the sword.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"29\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,26,29,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">29<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A merchant shall hardly keep himself from doing wrong;
