{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">Job<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 21<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,1,&quot;Job&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Then Job responded by saying:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,2,&quot;Job&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">I beseech you to hear my words and to do penance.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,3,&quot;Job&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Permit me, and I will speak, and afterwards, if you see fit, you can laugh at my words.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,4,&quot;Job&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Is my dispute against man, so that I would have no reason to be discouraged?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,5,&quot;Job&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Listen to me and be astonished, and place a finger over your mouth.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,6,&quot;Job&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">As for me, when I think it over, I am afraid, and trembling convulses my body.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,7,&quot;Job&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Why then do the impious live, having been lifted up and strengthened with riches?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,8,&quot;Job&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">They see their offspring continue before them: a commotion of close relatives and of children’s children in their sight.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,9,&quot;Job&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Their houses have been secure and peaceable, and there is no staff of God over them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,10,&quot;Job&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Their cattle have conceived and have not miscarried; their cow has given birth and is not deprived of her newborn.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,11,&quot;Job&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Their little ones go out like a flock, and their children jump around playfully.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,12,&quot;Job&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">They take up the timbrel and the lyre, and they rejoice at the sound of the organ.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,13,&quot;Job&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Their days are prolonged in wealth, yet, in an instant, they descend into hell.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,14,&quot;Job&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Who has said to God, “Depart from us, for we do not want the knowledge of your ways.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,15,&quot;Job&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And how is it helpful to us if we pray to him?”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,16,&quot;Job&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">It is true that their good things are not in their power. May the counsel of the impious be far from me!<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,17,&quot;Job&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">How often will the lamp of the wicked be extinguished, and a deluge overtake them, and how often will he distribute the afflictions of his wrath?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,18,&quot;Job&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">They will be like chaff before the face of the wind, and like ashes that the whirlwind scatters.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,19,&quot;Job&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">God will preserve the grief of the father for his sons, and, when he repays, then he will understand.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,20,&quot;Job&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">His eyes will see his own destruction, and he will drink from the wrath of the Almighty.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,21,&quot;Job&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For what does he care what happens to his house after him, or if the number of its months are reduced by half?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,22,&quot;Job&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Can anyone teach holy knowledge to God, who judges the exalted?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"23\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,23,&quot;Job&quot;)\">23<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">This one dies strong and healthy, rich and happy.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"24\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,24,&quot;Job&quot;)\">24<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">His gut is full of fat and his bones are moistened with marrow.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"25\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,25,&quot;Job&quot;)\">25<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">In truth, another dies in bitterness of soul, without any resources.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"26\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,26,&quot;Job&quot;)\">26<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And yet they will sleep together in the dust, and worms will cover them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"27\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,27,&quot;Job&quot;)\">27<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Surely, I know your thoughts and your sinful judgments against me.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"28\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,28,&quot;Job&quot;)\">28<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For you say, “Where is the house of the ruler, and where are the tabernacles of the impious?”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"29\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,29,&quot;Job&quot;)\">29<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Ask any passerby whom you wish, and you will realize that he understands these same things:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"30\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,30,&quot;Job&quot;)\">30<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">that the evil-doer is reserved for the day of destruction, and he will be led to the day of wrath.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"31\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,31,&quot;Job&quot;)\">31<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Who will reprove his way to his face, and who will repay him for what he has done?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"32\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,32,&quot;Job&quot;)\">32<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">He will be led to the tomb, and he will remain awake in the chaos of the dead.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"33\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,33,&quot;Job&quot;)\">33<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">He has been found acceptable to the banks of the River of Lamentation, and he will draw any man towards him, and there are countless before him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"34\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,18,21,34,&quot;Job&quot;)\">34<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Therefore, how long will you console me in vain, when your answer is shown to be repugnant to truth?<\/span> <\/p>\n<div class=\"bottom-nav\"><a href=\"\/cpdv\/1\/18\/20\" class=\"nav-btn-lg nav-ajax\">&lsaquo;
