But ill repute and disgrace follow him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,4,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Words from the mouth of a man are deep waters. And the fountain of wisdom is a torrent overflowing.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,5,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">It is not good to accept the character of the impious, so as to turn away from true judgment.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,6,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The lips of the foolish meddle in disputes. And his mouth provokes conflicts.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,7,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The mouth of the foolish is his destruction, and his own lips are the ruin of his soul.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,8,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The words of the double-tongued seem simple. And they reach even to the interior of the gut. Fear casts down the lazy, but the souls of the effeminate shall go hungry.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,9,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Whoever is dissolute and slack in his work is the brother of him who wastes his own works.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,10,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The name of the Lord is very strong tower. The just one rushes to it, and he shall be exalted.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,11,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The substance of the wealthy is the city of his strength, and it is like a strong wall encircling him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,12,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The heart of a man is exalted before it is crushed and humbled before it is glorified.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,13,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Whoever responds before he listens, demonstrates himself to be foolish and deserving of confusion.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,14,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The spirit of a man sustains his weakness. Yet who can sustain a spirit that is easily angered?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,15,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A prudent heart shall possess knowledge. And the ear of the wise seeks doctrine.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,16,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A man’s gift expands his way and makes space for him before leaders.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,17,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The just is the first accuser of himself; his friend arrives and shall investigate him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,18,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Casting a lot suppresses contentions and passes judgment, even among the powerful.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,19,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A brother who is helped by a brother is like a reinforced city, and judgments are like the bars of cities.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,20,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">From the fruit of a man’s mouth shall his belly be filled. And the harvest of his own lips shall satisfy him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,21,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Whoever values it shall eat from its fruits.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,22,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">He who has found a good wife has found goodness, and he shall draw contentment from the Lord. He who expels a good wife expels goodness. But he who holds on to an adulteress is foolish and impious.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"23\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,20,18,23,&quot;Proverbs&quot;)\">23<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The poor will speak with supplications.
