{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">Hebrews<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 5<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,1,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For every high priest, having been taken from among men, is appointed on behalf of men toward the things which pertain to God, so that he may offer gifts and sacrifices on behalf of sins;<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,2,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">he is able to commiserate with those who are ignorant and who wander astray, because he himself is also encompassed by infirmity.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,3,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And because of this, he also must make such offerings for sins even for himself, in the same manner as for the people.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,4,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Neither does anyone take up this honor himself, but rather he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,5,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Thus, even Christ did not glorify himself, so as to become High Priest, but instead, it was God who said to him: “You are my Son. Today I have begotten you.”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,6,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And similarly, he says in another place: “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,7,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">It is Christ who, in the days of his flesh, with a strong cry and tears, offered prayers and supplications to the One who was able to save him from death, and who was heard because of his reverence.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,8,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And although, certainly, he is the Son of God, he learned obedience by the things that he suffered.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,9,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And having reached his consummation, he was made, for all who are obedient to him, the cause of eternal salvation,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,10,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">having been called by God to be the High Priest, according to the order of Melchizedek.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,11,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Our message about him is great, and difficult to explain when speaking, because you have been made feeble when listening.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,12,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For even though it is the time when you ought to be teachers, you are still lacking, so that you must be taught the things that are the basic elements of the Word of God, and so you have been made like those who are in need of milk, and not of solid food.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,13,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For anyone who is still feeding on milk is still unskillful in the Word of Justice; for he is like an infant.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,19,5,14,&quot;Hebrews&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But solid food is for those who are mature, for those who, by practice, have sharpened their mind, so as to discern good from evil.<\/span> <\/p>\n<div class=\"bottom-nav\"><a href=\"\/cpdv\/2\/19\/4\" class=\"nav-btn-lg nav-ajax\">&lsaquo; Previous<\/a><a href=\"\/cpdv\/2\/19\/6\" class=\"nav-btn-lg nav-ajax\">Next &rsaquo;<\/a><\/div>\n","page_title":"Hebrews, Chapter 5 — Catholic Public Domain Version","book_title":"Hebrews","toolbar_title":"Hebrews — Ch. 5","prev_url":"\/cpdv\/2\/19\/4","next_url":"\/cpdv\/2\/19\/6","tid":2,"book_id":19,"chapter":5,"num_chapters":13,"trans":"CPDV","is_rtl":false,"strongs_data":{},"bsb_glosses":{},"book_name":"Hebrews","canonical_url":"https:\/\/accept.gift\/cpdv\/2\/19\/5","meta_desc":"For every high priest, having been taken from among men, is appointed on behalf of men toward the things which pertain to God, so that he may offer gifts and…"}
