{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">Luke<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 15<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,1,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Now tax collectors and sinners were drawing near to him, so that they might listen to him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,2,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, “This one accepts sinners and eats with them.”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,3,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he told this parable to them, saying:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,4,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">“What man among you, who has one hundred sheep, and if he will have lost one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the one whom he had lost, until he finds it?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,5,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And when he has found it, he places it on his shoulders, rejoicing.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,6,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And returning home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them: ‘Congratulate me! For I have found my sheep, which had been lost.’<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,7,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">I say to you, that there will be so much more joy in heaven over one sinner repenting, than over the ninety-nine just, who do not need to repent.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,8,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Or what woman, having ten drachmas, if she will have lost one drachma, would not light a candle, and sweep the house, and diligently search until she finds it?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,9,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying: ‘Rejoice with me! For I have found the drachma, which I had lost.’<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,10,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">So I say to you, there will be joy before the Angels of God over even one sinner who is repentant.”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,11,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he said: “A certain man had two sons.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,12,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And the younger of them said to the father, ‘Father, give me the portion of your estate which would go to me.’ And he divided the estate between them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,13,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And after not many days, the younger son, gathering it all together, set out on a long journey to a distant region. And there, he dissipated his substance, living in luxury.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,14,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And after he had consumed it all, a great famine occurred in that region, and he began to be in need.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,15,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he went and attached himself to one of the citizens of that region. And he sent him to his farm, in order to feed the swine.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,16,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he wanted to fill his belly with the scraps that the swine ate. But no one would give it to him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,17,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And returning to his senses, he said: ‘How many hired hands in my father’s house have abundant bread, while I perish here in famine!<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,18,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">I shall rise up and go to my father, and I will say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,19,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">I am not worthy to be called your son. Make me one of your hired hands.’<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,20,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And rising up, he went to his father. But while he was still at a distance, his father saw him, and he was moved with compassion, and running to him, he fell upon his neck and kissed him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,21,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And the son said to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. Now I am not worthy to be called your son.’<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,22,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But the father said to his servants: ‘Quickly! Bring out the best robe, and clothe him with it. And put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"23\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,23,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">23<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And bring the fatted calf here, and kill it. And let us eat and hold a feast.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"24\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,24,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">24<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For this son of mine was dead, and has revived; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to feast.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"25\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,25,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">25<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But his elder son was in the field. And when he returned and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"26\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,26,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">26<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he called one of the servants, and he questioned him as to what these things meant.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"27\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,27,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">27<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he said to him: ‘Your brother has returned, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safely.’<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"28\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,28,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">28<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Then he became indignant, and he was unwilling to enter. Therefore, his father, going out, began to plead with him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"29\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,29,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">29<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And in response, he said to his father: ‘Behold, I have been serving you for so many years. And I have never transgressed your commandment. And yet, you have never given me even a young goat, so that I might feast with my friends.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"30\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,30,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">30<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Yet after this son of yours returned, who has devoured his substance with loose women, you have killed the fatted calf for him.’<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"31\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,31,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">31<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But he said to him: ‘Son, you are with me always, and all that I have is yours.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"32\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,15,32,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">32<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But it was necessary to feast and to rejoice.
