{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">Luke<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 6<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,1,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Now it happened that, on the second first Sabbath, as he passed through the grain field, his disciples were separating the ears of grain and eating them, by rubbing them in their hands.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,2,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Then certain Pharisees said to them, “Why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbaths?”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,3,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And responding to them, Jesus said: “Have you not read this, what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,4,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">How he entered into the house of God, and took the bread of the Presence, and ate it, and gave it to those who were with him, though it is not lawful for anyone to eat it, except the priests alone?”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,5,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he said to them, “For the Son of man is Lord, even of the Sabbath.”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,6,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And it happened that, on another Sabbath, he entered into the synagogue, and he taught. And there was a man there, and his right hand was withered.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,7,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And the scribes and Pharisees observed whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might thereby find an accusation against him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,8,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Yet truly, he knew their thoughts, and so he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Rise up and stand in the middle.” And rising up, he stood still.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,9,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Then Jesus said to them: “I ask you if it is lawful on the Sabbaths to do good, or to do evil? To give health to a life, or to destroy it?”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,10,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And looking around at everyone, he said to the man, “Extend your hand.” And he extended it. And his hand was restored.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,11,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Then they were filled with madness, and they discussed with one another, what, in particular, they might do about Jesus.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,12,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And it happened that, in those days, he went out to a mountain to pray. And he was in the prayer of God throughout the night.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,13,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And when daylight had arrived, he called his disciples. And he chose twelve out of them (whom he also named Apostles):<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,14,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Simon, whom he surnamed Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,15,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Matthew and Thomas, James of Alphaeus, and Simon who is called the Zealot,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,16,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">and Jude of James, and Judas Iscariot, who was a traitor.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,17,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And descending with them, he stood in a level place with a multitude of his disciples, and a copious multitude of people from all of Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast, and Tyre and Sidon,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,18,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">who had come so that they might listen to him and be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled by unclean spirits were cured.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,19,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And the entire crowd was trying to touch him, because power went out from him and healed all.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,20,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And lifting up his eyes to his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,21,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who are weeping now, for you shall laugh.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,22,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Blessed shall you be when men will have hated you, and when they will have separated you and reproached you, and thrown out your name as if evil, because of the Son of man.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"23\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,23,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">23<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Be glad in that day and exult. For behold, your reward is great in heaven. For these same things their fathers did to the prophets.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"24\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,24,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">24<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Yet truly, woe to you who are wealthy, for you have your consolation.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"25\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,25,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">25<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Woe to you who are satisfied, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"26\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,26,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">26<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Woe to you when men will have blessed you. For these same things their fathers did to the false prophets.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"27\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,27,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">27<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"28\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,28,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">28<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who slander you.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"29\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,29,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">29<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And to him who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your coat, do not withhold even your tunic.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"30\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,30,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">30<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But distribute to all who ask of you. And do not ask again of him who takes away what is yours.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"31\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,31,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">31<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And exactly as you would want people to treat you, treat them also the same.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"32\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,32,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">32<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And if you love those who love you, what credit is due to you? For even sinners love those who love them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"33\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,33,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">33<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And if you will do good to those who do good to you, what credit is due to you? Indeed, even sinners behave this way.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"34\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,34,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">34<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And if you will loan to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is due to you? For even sinners lend to sinners, in order to receive the same in return.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"35\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,35,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">35<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">So truly, love your enemies. Do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return. And then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and to the wicked.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"36\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,36,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">36<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Therefore, be merciful, just as your Father is also merciful.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"37\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,37,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">37<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"38\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,38,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">38<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Give, and it will be given to you: a good measure, pressed down and shaken together and overflowing, they will place upon your lap. Certainly, the same measure that you use to measure out, will be used to measure back to you again.”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"39\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,39,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">39<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Now he told them another comparison: “How can the blind lead the blind? Would they not both fall into a pit?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"40\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,40,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">40<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The disciple is not above his teacher. But each one will be perfected, if he is like his teacher.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"41\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,41,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">41<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And why do you see the straw that is in your brother’s eye, while the log that is in your own eye, you do not consider?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"42\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,42,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">42<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, allow me to remove the straw from your eye,’ while you yourself do not see the log in your own eye? Hypocrite, first remove the log from your own eye, and then will you see clearly, so that you may lead out the straw from your brother’s eye.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"43\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,43,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">43<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor does an evil tree produce good fruit.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"44\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,44,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">44<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For each and every tree is known by its fruit. For they do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather the grape from the bramble bush.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"45\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,45,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">45<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A good man, from the good storehouse of his heart, offers what is good. And an evil man, from the evil storehouse, offers what is evil. For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"46\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,46,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">46<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I say?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"47\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,47,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">47<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Anyone who comes to me, and listens to my words, and does them: I will reveal to you what he is like.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"48\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,48,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">48<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">He is like a man building a house, who has dug deep and has laid the foundation upon the rock. Then, when the floodwaters came, the river was rushing against that house, and it was not able to move it. For it was founded upon the rock.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"49\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,6,49,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">49<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But whoever hears and does not do: he is like a man building his house upon the soil, without a foundation.
