{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">Galatians<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 4<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,1,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But I say that, during the time an heir is a child, he is no different from a servant, even though he is the owner of everything.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,2,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For he is under tutors and caretakers, until the time which was predetermined by the father.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,3,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">So also we, when we were children, were subservient to the influences of the world.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,4,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But when the fullness of time arrived, God sent his Son, formed from a woman, formed under the law,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,5,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">so that he might redeem those who were under the law, in order that we might receive the adoption of sons.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,6,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Therefore, because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying out: “Abba, Father.”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,7,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And so now he is not a servant, but a son. But if he is a son, then he is also an heir, through God.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,8,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But then, certainly, while ignorant of God, you served those who, by nature, are not gods.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,9,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But now, since you have known God, or rather, since you have been known by God: how can you turn away again, to weak and destitute influences, which you desire to serve anew?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,10,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">You serve the days, and months, and times, and years.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,11,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">I am afraid for you, lest perhaps I may have labored in vain among you.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,12,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Brothers, I beg you. Be as I am. For I, too, am like you. You have not injured me at all.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,13,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But you know that, in the weakness of the flesh, I have preached the Gospel to you for a long time, and that your trials are in my flesh.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,14,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">You did not despise or reject me. But instead, you accepted me like an Angel of God, even like Christ Jesus.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,15,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Therefore, where is your happiness? For I offer to you testimony that, if it could be done, you would have plucked out your own eyes and would have given them to me.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,16,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,17,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">They are not imitating you well. And they are willing to exclude you, so that you might imitate them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,18,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But be imitators of what is good, always in a good way, and not only when I am present with you.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,19,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">My little sons, I am giving birth to you again, until Christ is formed in you.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,20,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And I would willingly be present with you, even now. But I would alter my voice: for I am ashamed of you.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,21,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, have you not read the law?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,22,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For it is written that Abraham had two sons: one by a servant woman, and one by a free woman.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"23\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,23,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">23<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he who was of the servant was born according to the flesh. But he who was of the free woman was born by the promise.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"24\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,24,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">24<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">These things are said through an allegory. For these represent the two testaments. Certainly the one, on Mount Sinai, gives birth unto servitude, which is Hagar.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"25\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,25,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">25<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For Sinai is a mountain in Arabia, which is related to the Jerusalem of the present time, and it serves with her sons.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"26\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,26,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">26<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But that Jerusalem which is above is free; the same is our mother.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"27\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,27,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">27<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For it was written: “Rejoice, O barren one, though you do not conceive. Burst forth and cry out, though you do not give birth. For many are the children of the desolate, even more than of her who has a husband.”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"28\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,28,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">28<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Now we, brothers, like Isaac, are sons of the promise.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"29\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,29,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">29<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But just as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"30\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,30,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">30<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And what does Scripture say? “Cast out the woman servant and her son. For the son of a servant women shall not be an heir with the son of a free woman.”<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"31\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,9,4,31,&quot;Galatians&quot;)\">31<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And so, brothers, we are not the sons of the servant woman, but rather of the free woman.
