{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">Jeremias<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 48<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,1,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Against Moab thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Woe to Nabo, for it is laid waste, and confounded: Cariathaim is taken: the strong city is confounded and hath trembled.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,2,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">There is no more rejoicing in Moab over Hesebon: they have devised evil. Come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Therefore shalt thou in silence hold thy peace, and the sword shall follow thee.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,3,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">A voice of crying from Oronaim: waste, and great destruction.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,4,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Moab is destroyed: proclaim a cry for her little ones.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,5,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For by the ascent of Luith shall the mourner go up with weeping: for in the descent of Oronaim the enemies have heard a howling of destruction.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,6,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Flee, save your lives: and be as heath in the wilderness.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,7,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For because thou hast trusted in thy bulwarks, and in thy treasures, thou also shalt be taken: and Chamos shall go into captivity, his priests, and his princes together.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,8,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: and the valleys shall perish, and the plains shall be destroyed, for the Lord hath spoken:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,9,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Give a flower to Moab, for in its flower it shall go out: and the cities thereof shall be desolate, and uninhabited.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,10,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Cursed be he that doth the work of the Lord deceitfully: and cursed be he that withholdeth his sword from blood.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,11,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Moab hath been fruitful from his youth, and hath rested upon his lees: and hath not been poured out from vessel to vessel, nor hath gone into captivity : therefore his taste hath remained in him, and his scent is not changed.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,12,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Therefore behold the days come, saith the Lord, and I will send him men that shall order and overturn his bottles, and they shall cast him down, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles one against another.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,13,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And Moab shall be ashamed of Chamos, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, in which they trusted.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,14,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">How do you say: We are valiant, and stout men in battle?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,15,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Moab is laid waste, and they have cast down her cities: and her choice young men are gone down to the slaughter: saith the king, whose name is the Lord of hosts.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,16,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The destruction of Moab is near to come: the calamity thereof shall come on exceeding swiftly.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,17,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Comfort him, all you that are round about him, and all you that know his name, say: How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful rod?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,18,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst, O dwelling of the daughter of Dibon: because the spoiler of Moab is come up to thee, he hath destroyed thy bulwarks.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,19,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Stand in the way, and look out, O habitation of Aroer: inquire of him that fleeth: and say to him that hath escaped: What Is done?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,20,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Moab is confounded, because he is overthrown: howl ye, and cry, tell ye it in Amen, that Moab is wasted.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,21,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And judgment is come upon the plain country: upon Helon, and upon Jasa, and upon Mephaath.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,22,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And upon Dibon, and upon Nabo, and upon the house of Deblathaim,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"23\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,23,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">23<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And upon Cariathaim, and upon Bethgamul, and upon Bethmaon,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"24\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,24,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">24<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And upon Carioth, and upon Bosra: and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"25\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,25,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">25<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"26\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,26,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">26<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Make him drunk, because he lifted up himself against the Lord: and Moab shall dash his hand in his own vomit, and he also shall be in derision.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"27\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,27,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">27<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For Israel hath been a derision unto thee: as though thou hadst found him amongst thieves: for thy words therefore, which thou hast spoken against him, thou shalt be led away captive.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"28\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,28,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">28<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, you that dwell in Moab: and be ye Iike the dove that maketh her nest in the mouth of the hole in the highest place.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"29\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,29,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">29<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">We have heard the pride of Moab, he is exceeding proud: his haughtiness, and his arrogancy, and his pride, and the loftiness of his heart.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"30\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,30,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">30<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">I know, saith the Lord, his boasting, and that the strength thereof is not according to it, neither hath it endeavoured to do according as it was able.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"31\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,31,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">31<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Therefore will I lament for Moab, and I will cry out to all Moab, for the men of the brick wall that mourn.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"32\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,32,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">32<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">O vineyard of Sabama, I will weep for thee, with the mourning of Jazer: thy branches are gone over the sea, they are come even to the sea of Jazer: the robber hath rushed in upon thy harvest and thy vintage.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"33\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,33,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">33<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Joy and gladness is taken away from Carmel, and from the land of Moab, and I have taken away the wine out of the presses: the treader of the grapes shall not sing the accustomed cheerful tune.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"34\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,34,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">34<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">From the cry of Hesebon even to Eleale, and to Jasa, they have uttered their voice: from Segor to Oronaim, as a heifer of three years old: the waters also of Nemrim shall be very bad.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"35\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,35,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">35<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And I will take away from Moab, saith the Lord, him that offereth in the high places, and that sacrificeth to his gods.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"36\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,36,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">36<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Therefore my heart shall sound for Moab like pipes: and my heart a sound like pipes for the men of the brick wall: because he hath done more than he could, therefore they have perished.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"37\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,37,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">37<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For every head shall be bald, and every beard shall be shaven: all hands shall be tied together, and upon every back there shall be haircloth.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"38\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,38,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">38<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof general mourning: because I have broken Moab as an useless vessel, saith the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"39\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,39,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">39<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">How is it overthrown, and they have howled! How hath Moab bowed down the neck, and is confounded ! And Moab shall be a derision, and an example to all round about him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"40\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,40,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">40<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Thus saith the Lord: Behold he shall fly as an eagle, and shall stretch forth his wings to Moab.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"41\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,41,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">41<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Carioth is taken, and the strong holds are won: and the heart of the valiant men of Moab in that day shall be as the heart of a woman in labour.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"42\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,42,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">42<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And Moab shall cease to be a people : because he hath gloried against the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"43\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,43,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">43<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Fear, and the pit, and the snare come upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"44\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,44,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">44<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">He that shall flee from the fear, shall fall into the pit: and he that shall get up out of the pit, shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon Moab the year of their visitation, saith the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"45\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,45,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">45<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">They that fled from the snare stood in the shadow of Hesebon: but there came a fire out of Kesebon, and a flame out of the midst of Seen, and it shall devour part of Moab. and the crown of the head of the children of tumult.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"46\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,46,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">46<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Woe to thee, Moab, thou hast perished, O people of Chamos: for thy sons, and thy daughters are taken captives.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"47\" onclick=\"loadParallel(1,24,48,47,&quot;Jeremiah&quot;)\">47<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And I will bring back the captivity of Moab in the last days, saith the Lord.
