{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">Luke<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 24<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,1,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">AND on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,2,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And they found the stone rolled back from the sepulchre.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,3,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And going in, they found not the body of the Lord Jesus.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,4,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And it came to pass, as they were astonished in their mind at this, behold, two men stood by them, in shining apparel.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,5,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And as they were afraid, and bowed down their countenance towards the ground, they said unto them: Why seek you the living with the dead?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,6,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he spoke unto you, when he was in Galilee,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,7,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Saying: The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,8,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And they remembered his words.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,9,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And going back from the sepulchre, they told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,10,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And it was Mary Magdalen, and Joanna, and Mary of James, and the other women that were with them, who told these things to the apostles.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,11,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And these words seemed to them as idle tales; and they did not believe them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,12,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But Peter rising up, ran to the sepulchre, and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths laid by themselves; and went away wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,13,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And behold, two of them went, the same day, to a town which was sixty furlongs from Jerusalem, named Emmaus.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,14,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And they talked together of all these things which had happened.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,15,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And it came to pass, that while they talked and reasoned with themselves, Jesus himself also drawing near, went with them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,16,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But their eyes were held, that they should not know him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,17,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he said to them: What are these discourses that you hold one with another as you walk, and are sad?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,18,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And the one of them, whose name was Cleophas, answering, said to him: Art thou only a stranger to Jerusalem, and hast not known the things that have been done there in these days?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,19,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">To whom he said: What things? And they said: Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, mighty in work and word before God and all the people;<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,20,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And how our chief priests and princes delivered him to be condemned to death, and crucified him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,21,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But we hoped, that it was he that should have redeemed Israel: and now besides all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,22,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Yea and certain women also of our company affrighted us, who before it was light, were at the sepulchre,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"23\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,23,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">23<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And not finding his body, came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who say that he is alive.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"24\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,24,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">24<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And some of our people went to the sepulchre, and found it so as the women had said, but him they found not.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"25\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,25,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">25<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Then he said to them: O foolish, and slow of heart to believe in all things which the prophets have spoken.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"26\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,26,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">26<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and so to enter into his glory?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"27\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,27,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">27<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures, the things that were concerning him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"28\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,28,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">28<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And they drew night to the town, whither they were going: and he made as though he would go farther.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"29\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,29,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">29<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But they constrained him; saying: Stay with us, because it is towards evening, and the day is now far spent. And he went in with them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"30\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,30,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">30<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And it came to pass, whilst he was at table with them, he took bread, and blessed, and brake, and gave to them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"31\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,31,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">31<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And their eyes were opened, and they knew him: and he vanished out of their sight.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"32\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,32,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">32<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And they said one to the other: Was not our heart burning within us, whilst he spoke in this way, and opened to us the scriptures?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"33\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,33,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">33<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And rising up, the same hour, they went back to Jerusalem: and they found the eleven gathered together, and those that were staying with them,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"34\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,34,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">34<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Saying: The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"35\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,35,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">35<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And they told what things were done in the way; and how they knew him in the breaking of the bread.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"36\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,36,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">36<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Now whilst they were speaking these things, Jesus stood in the midst of them, and saith to them: Peace be to you; it is I, fear not.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"37\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,37,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">37<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But they being troubled and frightened, supposed that they saw a spirit.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"38\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,38,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">38<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he said to them: Why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"39\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,39,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">39<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">See my hands and feet, that it is I myself; handle, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me to have.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"40\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,40,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">40<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and feet.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"41\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,41,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">41<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But while they yet believed not, and wondered for joy, he said: Have you any thing to eat?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"42\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,42,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">42<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And they offered him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honeycomb.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"43\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,43,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">43<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And when he had eaten before them, taking the remains, he gave to them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"44\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,44,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">44<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"45\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,45,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">45<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"46\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,46,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">46<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead, the third day:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"47\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,47,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">47<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"48\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,48,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">48<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And you are witnesses of these things.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"49\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,49,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">49<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And I send the promise of my Father upon you: but stay you in the city till you be endued with power from on high.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"50\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,50,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">50<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he led them out as far as Bethania: and lifting up his hands, he blessed them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"51\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,51,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">51<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And it came to pass, whilst he blessed them, he departed from them, and was carried up to heaven.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"52\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,52,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">52<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And they adoring went back into Jerusalem with great joy.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"53\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,3,24,53,&quot;Luke&quot;)\">53<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And they were always in the temple, praising and blessing God.
