{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">John<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 11<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,1,&quot;John&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">NOW there was a certain man sick, named Lazarus, of Bethania, of the town of Mary and Martha her sister.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,2,&quot;John&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">(And Mary was she that anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair: whose brother Lazarus was sick.)<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,3,&quot;John&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">His sisters therefore sent to him, saying: Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,4,&quot;John&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And Jesus hearing it, said to them: This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God: that the Son of God may be glorified by it.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,5,&quot;John&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister Mary, and Lazarus.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,6,&quot;John&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he still remained in the same place two days.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,7,&quot;John&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Then after that, he said to his disciples: Let us go into Judea again.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,8,&quot;John&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The disciples say to him: Rabbi, the Jews but now sought to stone thee: and goest thou thither again?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,9,&quot;John&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Jesus answered: Are there not twelve hours of the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,10,&quot;John&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But if he walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,11,&quot;John&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">These things he said; and after that he said to them: Lazarus our friend sleepeth; but I go that I may awake him out of sleep.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,12,&quot;John&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">His disciples therefore said: Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,13,&quot;John&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But Jesus spoke of his death; and they thought that he spoke of the repose of sleep.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,14,&quot;John&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Then therefore Jesus said to them plainly: Lazarus is dead.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,15,&quot;John&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And I am glad, for your sakes, that I was not there, that you may believe: but let us go to him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,16,&quot;John&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples: Let us also go, that we may die with him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,17,&quot;John&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Jesus therefore came, and found that he had been four days already in the grave.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,18,&quot;John&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">(Now Bethania was near Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off.)<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,19,&quot;John&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And many of the Jews were come to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,20,&quot;John&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Martha therefore, as soon as she heard that Jesus had come, went to meet him: but Mary sat at home.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,21,&quot;John&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Martha therefore said to Jesus: Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,22,&quot;John&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But now also I know that whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"23\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,23,&quot;John&quot;)\">23<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Jesus saith to her: Thy brother shall rise again.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"24\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,24,&quot;John&quot;)\">24<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Martha saith to him: I know that he shall rise again, in the resurrection at the last day.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"25\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,25,&quot;John&quot;)\">25<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Jesus said to her: I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, although he be dead, shall live:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"26\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,26,&quot;John&quot;)\">26<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And every one that liveth, and believeth in me, shall not die for ever. Believest thou this?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"27\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,27,&quot;John&quot;)\">27<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">She saith to him: Yea, Lord, I have believed that thou art Christ the Son of the living God, who art come into this world.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"28\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,28,&quot;John&quot;)\">28<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And when she had said these things, she went, and called her sister Mary secretly, saying: The master is come, and calleth for thee.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"29\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,29,&quot;John&quot;)\">29<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">She, as soon as she heard this, riseth quickly, and cometh to him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"30\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,30,&quot;John&quot;)\">30<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For Jesus was not yet come into the town: but he was still in that place where Martha had met him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"31\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,31,&quot;John&quot;)\">31<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The Jews therefore, who were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary that she rose up speedily and went out, followed her, saying: She goeth to the grave to weep there.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"32\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,32,&quot;John&quot;)\">32<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">When Mary therefore was come where Jesus was, seeing him, she fell down at his feet, and saith to him: Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"33\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,33,&quot;John&quot;)\">33<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Jesus, therefore, when he saw her weeping, and the Jews that were come with her, weeping, groaned in the spirit, and troubled himself,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"34\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,34,&quot;John&quot;)\">34<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And said: Where have you laid him? They say to him: Lord, come and see.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"35\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,35,&quot;John&quot;)\">35<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And Jesus wept.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"36\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,36,&quot;John&quot;)\">36<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The Jews therefore said: Behold how he loved him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"37\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,37,&quot;John&quot;)\">37<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But some of them said: Could not he that opened the eyes of the man born blind, have caused that this man should not die?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"38\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,38,&quot;John&quot;)\">38<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Jesus therefore again groaning in himself, cometh to the sepulchre. Now it was a cave; and a stone was laid over it.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"39\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,39,&quot;John&quot;)\">39<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Jesus saith: Take away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith to him: Lord, by this time he stinketh, for he is now of four days.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"40\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,40,&quot;John&quot;)\">40<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Jesus saith to her: Did not I say to thee, that if thou believe, thou shalt see the glory of God?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"41\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,41,&quot;John&quot;)\">41<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">They took therefore the stone away. And Jesus lifting up his eyes said: Father, I give thee thanks that thou hast heard me.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"42\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,42,&quot;John&quot;)\">42<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And I knew that thou hearest me always; but because of the people who stand about have I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"43\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,43,&quot;John&quot;)\">43<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">When he had said these things, he cried with a loud voice: Lazarus, come forth.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"44\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,44,&quot;John&quot;)\">44<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And presently he that had been dead came forth, bound feet and hands with winding bands; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus said to them: Loose him, and let him go.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"45\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,45,&quot;John&quot;)\">45<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Many therefore of the Jews, who were come to Mary and Martha, and had seen the things that Jesus did, believed in him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"46\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,46,&quot;John&quot;)\">46<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But some of them went to the Pharisees, and told them the things that Jesus had done.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"47\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,47,&quot;John&quot;)\">47<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The chief priests therefore, and the Pharisees, gathered a council, and said: What do we, for this man doth many miracles?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"48\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,48,&quot;John&quot;)\">48<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">If we let him alone so, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and take away our place and nation.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"49\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,49,&quot;John&quot;)\">49<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">But one of them, named Caiphas, being the high priest that year, said to them: You know nothing.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"50\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,50,&quot;John&quot;)\">50<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Neither do you consider that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"51\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,51,&quot;John&quot;)\">51<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And this he spoke not of himself: but being the high priest of that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"52\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,52,&quot;John&quot;)\">52<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And not only for the nation, but to gather together in one the children of God, that were dispersed.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"53\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,53,&quot;John&quot;)\">53<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">From that day therefore they devised to put him to death.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"54\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,54,&quot;John&quot;)\">54<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Wherefore Jesus walked no more openly among the Jews; but he went into a country near the desert, unto a city that is called Ephrem, and there he abode with his disciples.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"55\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,55,&quot;John&quot;)\">55<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And the pasch of the Jews was at hand; and many from the country went up to Jerusalem, before the pasch to purify themselves.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"56\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,4,11,56,&quot;John&quot;)\">56<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">They sought therefore for Jesus; and they discoursed one with another, standing in the temple: What think you that he is not come to the festival day?
