{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">Ecclesiasticus<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 16<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"1\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,1,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">1<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">REJOICE not in ungodly children, if they be multiplied: neither be delighted in them, if the fear of God be not with them.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,2,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Trust not to their life, and respect not their labours.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,3,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For better is one that feareth God, than a thousand ungodly children.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,4,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And it is better to die without children, than to leave ungodly children.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,5,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">By one that is wise a country shall be inhabited, the tribe of the ungodly shall become desolate.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,6,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Many such things hath my eyes seen, and greater things than these my ear hath heard.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,7,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">In the congregation of sinners a fire shall be kindled, and in an unbelieving nation wrath shall dame out.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,8,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The ancient giants did not obtain pardon for their sine, who were destroyed trusting to their own strength:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,9,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And he spared not the place where Lot sojourned, but abhorred them for the pride of their word.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,10,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">He had not pity on them, destroying the whole nation that extolled them- selves in their sine.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,11,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">So did he with the six hundred thousand footmen, who were gathered together in the hardness of their heart: and if one had been stiffnecked, it is a wonder if he had escaped unpunished:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,12,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For mercy and wrath are with him. He is mighty to forgive, and to pour out indignation:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,13,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">According as his mercy is, so his correction judgeth a man according to his works.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,14,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The sinner shall not escape in his rapines, and the patience of him that sheweth mercy shall not be put off.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,15,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">All mercy shall make a place for every man according to the merit of his works, and according to the wisdom of his sojournment.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,16,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Say not: I shall be hidden from God. and who shall remember me from on high?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,17,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">In such a multitude I shall not be known: for what is my soul in such an immense creation?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,18,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Behold the heaven, and the heavens of heavens, the deep, and all the earth, and the things that are in them, shall be moved in his sight,<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,19,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">The mountains also, and the hills, end the foundations of the earth: when God shall look upon them, they shall be shaken with trembling.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"20\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,20,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">20<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And in all these things the heart is senseless: and every heart is understood by him:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"21\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,21,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">21<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And his ways who shall understand, and the storm, which no eye of man see?<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"22\" onclick=\"loadParallel(3,5,16,22,&quot;Sirach&quot;)\">22<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For many of his works are hidden: hut the works of his justice who shall declare?
