{"reader_html":"<h1 class=\"chapter-heading\">The Second Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians<span class=\"chapter-label\">Chapter 5<\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><span class=\"dropcap-wrap\" data-v=\"1\"><span class=\"dropcap\" title=\"Compare verse 1 across translations\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,1,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">F<\/span>or we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"2\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,2,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">2<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"3\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,3,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">3<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"4\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,4,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">4<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"5\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,5,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">5<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"6\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,6,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">6<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"7\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,7,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">7<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"8\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,8,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">8<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"9\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,9,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">9<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"10\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,10,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">10<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"11\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,11,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">11<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"12\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,12,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">12<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"13\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,13,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">13<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"14\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,14,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">14<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"15\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,15,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">15<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"16\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,16,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">16<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"17\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,17,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">17<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"18\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,18,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">18<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"verse-para\"><sup class=\"vnum\" data-v=\"19\" onclick=\"loadParallel(2,8,5,19,&quot;2 Corinthians&quot;)\">19<\/sup><span class=\"vtext\">To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them;
